We set off this morning @ 3.a.m. to climb the 900m of Khumbu Icefall to Camp 1 where we are to stay for 2 nights at 6’050m before moving up the Western Cwm (the flat part of the Khumbu glacier) to Camp 2 at 6’500m and finally climb close to the Lhotse wall.
A tough climb by any standards through the Khumbu maze, made more difficult by the fact that I had a bad day: no fuel in the tank after 90mn of what ended up being a long 5 hour climb.
It was a big jump in altitude, at twice the recommended daily acclimatization rate (300-400m per day).
An afternoon of heavy headache followed, slowly cleared up with Diamox and a heavy dose of Ibuprofen, which got me through the night and all was thankfully gone by morning.
The views of Lhotse and the surroundings were stunning!
But Everest only showed a fraction of its black beauty (Left of the Lhotse face on the video)
